Long ago, in the mystical land of China, there lived a powerful emperor named Qin Shi Huang. His rule was just, and his land was filled with prosperity and peace. Still, there was something that bothered the great emperor; he wished to see the legendary creature, the Qilin.
One day, Qin Shi Huang summoned his subjects and announced a decree: "Whoever brings me the Qilin shall receive riches beyond their wildest dreams." And so, the hunt for the Qilin began.
Months turned into years, and despite the exhaustive efforts by the bravest of hunters, scholars, and adventurers, the Qilin remained unseen, like a myth lost in the sands of time. The emperor began to lose hope of ever casting his eyes
In the heart of the kingdom, there lived an old, wise woman named Li Mei. Known for her knowledge of folklore and ancient tales, Li Mei was intrigued by the emperor's quest. She was old and frail but possessed an unparalleled spirit. Hearing the emperor's desire, she decided to undertake the holy quest to find the Qilin.
Armed with her wisdom and countless tales about the Qilin, Li Mei journeyed to the sacred forest believed to be the dwelling place of the Qilin. Unlike the emperor's men, she carried no weapons or traps. Her belief was that the Qilin was a creature of peace and didn't intend to harm it or capture it against its will.
As she travelled deeper into the forest, Li Mei often found herself in danger. However, she did not falter. Soon, her food supply diminished, and she was left to survive on berries and wild fruits. But she continued on her journey, always hoping
After unbearable hardships and countless nights under glimmering stars, Li Mei finally arrived at a glade shimmering with an ethereal glow. Suddenly, a soft melody echoed, and the sun rays bathed a creature in light: the mythical Qilin. Stunned at its appearance, Li Mei fell to her knees, tears of joy streaming down her face.
The Qilin gazed at Li Mei and, to her amazement, began to communicate. While the creature uttered no words, Li Mei found she could comprehend its thoughts. The Qilin confirmed that it had been hiding from the human realm due to its fear of being esteemed for its magic and beauty rather than its true purpose: to signify peace and prosperity.
Li Mei explained her mission and the emperor's desire to see the divine creature for himself. The Qilin agreed to visit Emperor Qin Shi Huang on one condition. It requested Li Mei to promise that it would not be captured or killed out
Li Mei returned to the kingdom, and news of her successful quest spread. Everyone awaited to witness the graceful creature in awe. As promised, the Qilin graced the kingdom with its presence, leaving people mesmerized by its beauty and majesty. The emperor, stunned by the creature, thanked Li Mei and cherished the sight of Qilin, who roamed freely in the kingdom under the promise of peace.
From that day, the Chinese people revered the Qilin as a holy symbol of peace, prosperity, and serenity, understanding that the divine creature preferred harmony and goodwill over captivity and greed.
Thus, the folk tale of the Qilin is a lesson, reminding us to respect and value nature’s creations for what they represent and the harmony they bring rather than for selfish purposes. As the legend of Qilin continues to be narrated, the integrity of Li Mei and the majesty of the Qilin is celebrated, instilling values of respect, tranquility, and harmony in every listener.
