Ali Baba: Of Secrets, Treasures, and The Forty Thieves
One hot afternoon, while collecting firewood in the forest, Ali Baba heard the thundering approach of horse hooves. He quickly clambered up a tree to hide. From his concealed vantage point, he saw a band of forty thieves stop near a large rock. The leader approached the rock and uttered the words, “Open Sesame!” To Ali Baba's astonishment, the rock shifted, revealing a hidden cave. The thieves entered, and after a while, they emerged, mounted their horses, and left. Before leaving, the leader commanded, “Close Sesame!” and the rock obediently slid back to its place.

Returning home, he sought the counsel of his elder brother, Cassim, sharing the secret of the hidden treasure and the enchanted words. Greed clouded Cassim’s judgment. The very next morning, he went to the cave, intending to take as much treasure as he could. But in his excitement, he forgot the words to exit the cave. Trapped, he was discovered by the thieves upon their return.
Infuriated by the breach, they ended Cassim’s life, leaving his body as a warning to any other potential intruders. When Cassim didn’t return, Ali Baba, worried, went to the
Morgiana went to a renowned apothecary in the town to buy special ointments for the burial, inadvertently revealing the unfortunate demise to the apothecary, who also happened to serve the thieves. Realizing that their message hadn't deterred intruders, the leader decided to find and eliminate them.
The thieves hatched a plan. They hid in large oil jars, which their leader, posing as an oil merchant, took to Ali Baba's house, seeking shelter for the night. However, the astute Morgiana sensed something amiss. That night, she poured boiling oil into the jars, thwarting the threat unbeknownst to Ali Baba.
Grateful for Morgiana's continual vigilance and intelligence, Ali Baba granted her freedom. But the danger hadn’t passed. The leader, the sole survivor,
Pretending to be a royal merchant, he befriended Ali Baba's son and was invited into their home. Once again, Morgiana’s sharp instincts sensed a threat. She arranged for a dance performance during dinner, wherein she would dance with a dagger. As she danced closer to the disguised leader, she swiftly plunged the dagger into him, ending the looming danger once and for all.
With the threat finally eliminated, Ali Baba returned to the cave, retrieved the treasures, and ensured that it was distributed amongst the needy. The tale of the secret cave, the treasures, and the forty thieves became legendary. But more than the adventure and the treasures, the people of Persia remembered and celebrated the tale for Morgiana’s wisdom, bravery, and unwavering loyalty. Her name became synonymous with intelligence and valor, echoing through the ages as a beacon of inspiration for all.
